LONDON (AFX) - UK small caps closed lower, bucking the broader market trend, with Newfound down after the group issued a profit warning, dealers said. The FTSE Small Cap index closed 2.2 points lower at 4,097.1, while the FTSE 100 index was 20.6 points higher at 6,401.5. Among the fallers, Newfound lost 9-1/2 or 14.07 pct at 58, after the developer and operator of up-market holiday resorts said it expects 2006 operating profits before exceptional items to be not less than 6 mln usd, but warned that its EPS for the year will be significantly below expectations. Meanwhile, Monstermob Group lost 6-1/4 or 11.36 pct at 48-3/4 following shareholders approving the sale of a 52 pct stake in the company to Spanish mobile phone ringtone group LaNetro Zed SA. LaNetro Zed will subscribe for 68 mln new Monstermob shares for a total of 34 mln stg.
